2017 Artist in Residence

The Haven/Gabriola Arts Council Artist in Residence for 2017 has been selected!

The Haven and The Gabriola Arts Council are pleased to announce that Talia Peckel has been chosen as the Haven/Gabriola Arts Council Artist in Residence for 2017. Talia is a Toronto-based artist who was born in Canada and raised in Colombia. She moved back to Toronto and completed her BFA with a major in Drawing and Painting at OCAD University in 2014. After her studies she travelled and worked on a farm in rural Ontario, then worked as an art instructor in a community-run studio in downtown Toronto for a year. However, having fallen in love with farming, she decided to keep travelling and completed a series of murals on a farm in Salt Spring Island. Read more…

Jeff Molloy: “Make A Bigger Table”

Jeff Molloy—inspired artist, devoted husband and family man, committed and beloved friend and community member—died on August 3rd, 2016 after a courageous, hard-fought battle with cancer.

Jeff played a significant role in the growth and development of the Gabriola Arts Council. He served as a Director for six years, and in the past two years he took the lead on the building project. Jeff had a no-nonsense approach to board leadership, often cutting through distractions and noise to deal with board and organizational issues head-on, and always with curiousity, respect, wisdom, and humour.
