The Gabriola Arts Council is hosting our 2nd annual fundraising gala on January 30th, 2016 at the Community Hall! Remember last year’s Chair Affair? A great time was had by all!
This year, we’ll find our way with MAPS! We’ve got old maps, new maps, and a whole pile of atlases that we’ll provide to a maximum of FIFTY Gabriola ARTISTS. You are invited to use and/or be inspired by the maps we provide, or you can use or create your own map. All kinds of maps are welcome—road maps, topographic maps, nautical charts, star charts, globes—the world’s the limit!
How do I get my map? Come to the WI Hall on Thursday, November 19th from 10am to noon. The maps are first come, first serve—come early to get the best ones! We’ll need your commitment to providing a piece for the show by November 27th (if the artist roster is not already full).
When do I have to be finished? We will need your finished piece by January 25, 2016. Finished pieces will be on display in the Village until the day of the event, so the earlier you get them in, the longer they will get to shine!
How does it work? This is GAC’s annual FUNDRAISER, so all money earned will go towards making arts and culture on Gabriola as vibrant as ever! Specifically, this money will go into the WI Hall renovations, helping us to create a cultural hub for artists and art lovers on the island!
The works of art will be sold in either a live auction or a silent auction. Artists will receive 25% of the sale price of their work, and are welcome to donate any or all of that back to the Arts Council. You will be entitled to a tax receipt for any portion of the donated value.
There will be a whole lot more to the event! Admission tickets are only $10, there will be music, food, a map-themed prize package, a 50/50 draw, a paparazzi photo shoot, and some special surprises!
