RHYTHM IN THE RAW at Cultivate is an experiment in public art creation.
Cultivate is looking for creatives to create temporary installations on the Arts Council property over the course of the nine day festival.
A child might build a beautiful two story mansion from twigs and moss, while you might fasten together a metal sculpture in the shape of a volcano. Your imagination is the vehicle to your installation.
We have collaborated with GIRO to provide artists with materials at no charge. The rules are you cannot permanently alter the landscape or disrupt the flow of people or vehicle traffic, plus the temporary installation must be dismantled and the parts recycled, repurposed, or be reclaimed by the earth. Yes, the piece can be completely organic in nature.
This community engagement is about participation by those who don’t get a chance to do something like this in their regular daily lives, it is designed for all ages and artistic pursuits.
The installation process begins on July 1st at GAC (artists can start shopping at GIRO in June after the successful candidates have been named) and must be completed by July 8th, so people can view the finished installations on July 9th.
The installations must be dismantled and all materials removed by July 14th. GAC will document the process and share your installation on social media. The public is invited to drop by the property and see the art in motion and engage in conversation with the artists about their process and their vision. The challenge to get a spot on the property is to tell us why you want to do this.
