The Craft Council of BC is working on a project to create a snapshot of craft in the province – its production (craft artists, artist collectives, courses, arts councils) and distribution (craft markets, retailers, private and public galleries).
The goal of the project is to allow us to get a better understanding of what is happening provincially in the craft community (who is working where, etc.), as well as to begin developing a mobile app. The app would be used to allow people to tour studios, provide resources to craftspeople, etc. as well as to promote craft in BC.
At this stage, we are collecting contact information from people who are interested in the inventory and/or the app. We would love to connect with as many craftspeople, artisans, makers, etc. as possible. The actual app itself likely won’t go into development for a few months, and at that time we would be in touch with those interested to give them more details with regard to what would be required. I have put together a short online form which can be accessed by clicking Craft in BC Form for those interested.
At this time you do not need to be a CCBC member to participate (although if you are interested in becoming a member, we would love to hear from you too!).
We are hoping to connect with all kinds of craftspeople, so if you know of anyone else who would be interested, please feel free to forward them this email. We are also in the process of updating our social media strategy, so if you have any events that you think we would be interested in promoting or projects that you would like to collaborate with us on, our lovely communications intern Alina would be happy to hear from you as well (firstname.lastname@example.org).
If you have any questions about the project, I can be reached by email at email@example.com.
