Call for Submissions: Upcoming Curated Group Shows for the Summer

Please forward short written proposals to hiveemporium@gmail.com

For the Bees  (July 1 – 19)

How do bees teach us about our own communal purpose?

This call is for work specific to honey bees and their importance to understanding our environment.

Inspired by the life-work of SFU professor Mark Winston who writes—“from the low hum of tens of thousands of insects and the pungent smell of honey and beeswax, to the sight of workers flying back and forth between flowers and the hive. The experience of an apiary slows our sense of time, heightens our awareness, and inspires awe.”

Submit ideas by June 7 – subject heading ‘For the Bees’)

Lost in the Woods – Ephemeral Creations (July 23 – August 3)

Artists are invited to re-imagine the gallery, considering local and distant landscapes as a presentational space.  Two-fold, the work should be placed in a safe and non-environmentally sensitive location, documented and then immediately dismantled. The artefact and documentation will then be installed in the HIVE Gallery.

Submit ideas by June 21 – subject heading ‘Lost in the Woods’
