The Gabriola Chamber Ensemble presents Beautiful Music
Throughout the history of music, there are pieces that we return to again and again, and for good reason – they are simply beautiful. Join us Sunday, April 19th, 5pm, at the Phoenix Auditorium as Gabriola Chamber Ensemble proudly presents Beautiful Music – a collage of classical works featuring Antonio Vivaldi’s beautiful multi-movement work for choir and orchestra: the ‘Gloria’.
Composed circa 1715, the ‘Gloria’ – as was true with much of Vivaldi’s music – was long unknown even to scholars. It wasn’t until the late 1920s when it was rediscovered and received its first modern performance in 1939 (modern meaning performed with both male and female voices). Since then it has been performed countless times and is a particular favourite of community ensembles – balancing beauty with accessibility.
The concert will also feature solos, duets, and small ensemble works by Alan Hovhaness, Franz Lehar, Astor Piazolla and others.
Tickets are $15 and available at the door. Children 10 and under get in free with an adult. For more information please contact Sue Gould at 250-247-2034 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. See you at the concert!
Now in its 17th season, the Gabriola Chamber Ensemble is an eclectic group of singers and instrumentalists who share a love of classical music. We perform three concerts per year, including the ever-popular Cool Messiah (traditional and “funky takes” on Handel’s Masterwork.) We are always open to new members, so if you have some musical experience, and if you love classical music too, please contact Leah Hokanson at email@example.com.
