Johnny MacRae is a mouthy poet. A national slam champion, widely toured poet, and dedicated community-builder, MacRae was named Poet of Honour for the Victoria Spoken Word Festival in 2013, and received the Zaccheus Jackson Nyce Memorial Award. His work ranges from profanely irreverent satire to critical self-reflection and earth-based spirituality.  “MacRae performs poems grounded in a mythic cosmology, poems which combine a respect for traditional poetic structure with an impishly postmodern sense of humour.” (Vince Tinguely, LitLive.ca)

Why shouldn’t poetry be a group activity? A crash course in collaborative composition, CollaboWRITE combines playful movement and writing with heaping doses of silliness to push you to create spoken word poems – with other human beings!!

After (un)grounding ourselves with improv warm-ups, we’ll explore various methods for crafting poetry with others. Along the way, Johnny can share insights into collaboration and risk-taking learned from 10+ years experience composing and performing spoken word with others as a member of poetry slam teams, as well as acts such as 2 Dope Boys in a Cadillac, The Dambassadors and Travelin’ Word Circus.
