Save Our Shores and Raincoast Conservation Foundation present DIRECTLY AFFECTED: VOICES FOR OUR COAST. “Directly Affected” is a short film by Raincoast, who teamed up with Vancouver film-maker Zach Embree in response to the frustration felt by communities across BC who want to have their voices heard on the Kinder Morgan Trans Mountain Pipeline Expansion proposal. Before being allowed to participate in the National Energy Board’s public review of the pipeline expansion, applicants had to prove that they were “directly affected” or had relevant knowledge or expertise. This left many individuals and grassroots groups excluded from the review process.
Lori Waters, from Raincoast, will introduce the film and help us understand the connections between Kinder Morgan, oil clean up companies owned and controlled by oil companies, and the carbon economy pushing increased tanker and freighter traffic through the Salish Sea. She will also offer insights on how the issue of ship anchorages off Gabriola fits into this larger picture and she’ll tell us about her experience exposing how Enbridge deleted over 1000 square kilometres of islands from their “tanker safety” public education videos. Doors open at 6:45.
