Janice Ellison – Hand to Hand

I collect things. Not always intentionally, quite often accidentally these things come to me. Buttons, beads, paper, lace, feathers, beach glass, the odd and the silly. Whether shaped by human hand or shaped by nature I am fascinated by the texture, colour, detail and variety. Often these are the forgotten things languishing in tins, boxes or the bottom or drawers and because I appreciate them I want to bring them into the light again. They have become a medium and a vehicle for my imagination. Used not as they were intended but reimagined, assembled in a new form; greeting cards, embellished boxes, mirror frames, graphic abstracts. I strive to find a balance to reflect my point of view and to honour the materials.

Janice Ellison is studio #30 in the 2019 Thanksgiving Studio Tour
