Gabriola islander, Liz McKnight, began taking photos in her teens. Her background in Art Therapy informs her work. As a self-taught photographer, she uses her craft as both a creative outlet and a way to keep her focused on the present moment. Her photos are primarily drawn from the abundance of nature on Gabriola as well as from her travels to Peru, Mexico, England, Tofino, Toronto and Vancouver. She likes to marry her images with her love of weathered and beaten window frames because she likes to retain the character of their previous lives. Her practical nature produces both indoor and outdoor art. Frames with glass are for indoors. Those without glass can be hung outdoors, in a garden room – or perhaps a steamy bathroom. (The photos are printed on a material that will last outdoors for years.) Smaller images, cards and magnets are available in her Home Studio.
