Position Overview

The Gabriola Arts Council (GAC) is seeking a motivated and community-minded individual to join our team as a Members & Community Outreach Support. This short-term summer position focuses on strengthening relationships across Gabriola’s vibrant arts community while helping GAC better understand and respond to the needs of its members and local arts groups.
The successful candidate will connect with artists and organizations across disciplines—including visual arts, music, dance, and literary arts—and contribute to a meaningful asset and gap analysis that will inform future programming and support. This position is 30 hours per week, with a minimum of 50% of working time conducted in person at the Gabriola Arts Council office, and up to 50% remote work where appropriate.

Key Responsibilities

● Conduct outreach to GAC members and local arts groups via email, phone, andin-person meetings
● Build and maintain positive relationships with artists and community organizations
● Gather insights on current needs, opportunities, and challenges within the arts community
● Research and document existing community assets (programs, spaces, networks, supports)
● Identify service gaps and opportunities for GAC to expand or improve its support
● Compile findings into a clear, organized asset and gap analysis report
● Provide support to Gabriola Arts Council staff on specific projects, as required
● Assist with general administrative and outreach tasks as needed

Reporting Structure

This position will report to a member of the Board of Directors of the Gabriola Arts Council
and will work collaboratively with staff and volunteers as needed.

Qualifications & Skills

● Strong interpersonal and communication skills
● Confidence engaging with a diverse range of individuals and groups
● Excellent organizational and note-taking abilities
● Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
● Interest in arts, culture, and community development
● Experience with research, surveys, or community engagement is an asset

Eligibility Requirements (Canada Summer Jobs)

Applicants must:

● Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
● Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person with refugee protection
● Have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN)
● Be legally entitled to work in Canada
● Have their own vehicle or mode of transport and their own computer equipment
